Gayatri Sadhna is a complete sadhna. Two rishis got this mantra—Rishi Vishvamitra and Rishi Markandeya. Shukracharya first used it in the Sanjeevani Vidya. Rishi Vishvamitra created a parallel universe, Rishi Markandeya conquered death and Shukracharya had the ability to revive the dead back to life... All three of them had the blessings of the Mother. They achieved these supernormal feats through the sadhna of Gayatri. The same sadhna produces different effects in different sadhaks, depending on the desire and capacity of the sadhak to access its force.
Mantra is a dhwani (sound) and it has a vibration. This vibration indicates the extent of siddhi of the mantra and the effect it will have on the body and environment. The vibrations of this mantra instils stillness and shanti (peace) within, it holds within it the amelioration of all adversities. It is called the mahamantra.
Since the mantra is energy in the form of sound vibrations, it is extremely important that the ucharan is correct. Wrong ucharan can have the opposite effect. For example, a common error made by people in this mantra is Ombhurbhuvaswaha. The correct ucharan is Ombhurbhuvasvah. Bhu, Bhuva, Svah are names of three lokas or dimensions of existence through which this mantra takes a being. Swaha on the other hand is making an ahuti (offering) to the fire. When you chant swaha, fire asks for an ahuti but you do not give any ahuti, so then you yourself become the ahuti or sacrifice. Therefore, mantra sadhna is never done without the Guru. Guru gives you the mantra and channelises the shakti within.
When Guru chants this mantra, the shakti of the mantra becomes pratyaksh (apparent) for the sadhak. One hundred and eight of such chants have the effect of bringing about a complete kayakalp (transformation) in a being. But then, the body has to be first prepared, the prana shakti has to be conditioned to receive/absorb the vibrations of the mantra. For this, elementary practices from Sanatan Kriya are introduced to induce stillness. Once stillness begins to set in then mantras are introduced. Mantras are like ripples with a pattern in still water. It is essential to generate that pattern to awaken gods.
Gayatri Sadhna encompasses within it the twin aspects of devi—Gayatri or internal or that which is unmanifest, from which everything manifests and Savitri or external, which is manifested creation in totality. It holds the power to bestow upon the practitioner fulfilment in all aspects of creation—spiritual and material. No kind of adversity can touch a sadhak of Gayatri mantra, such is the force of Mother. When the ucharan is internal (anahad), Gayatri is invoked and when it is external (ahad), Savitri is invoked and awareness is kept on the form of sun, also known as Savita (tat savitur—that savita).
There are three requisites to performing this mantra—ucharan (chant), bhav (intent) and the aahvahan (invocation of the Mother). Om maa aapo jyotirasomritam... the combination of jyoti (light) and ras (nectar) is the blessing of the Mother, implying accomplishment in both spiritual and physical realms. There is no bigger force than Ma.
The siddhi of this mantra has the ability to channelise any kind of devi shakti into the practitioner. There are three times to perform this mantra—morning, afternoon and evening. The ucharan (chant) for the mantra is different for different times as is the swaroop of devi. In the morning it is Saraswati, in the afternoon Lakshmi and in the evening it is Kali.
Pranayam plays an important role in the sadhana. Pranayam is performed both by altering the breath, and altering the movement of eyes (chaksha pranayam). After the siddhi of the mantra, 11 ahutis of the mantra are performed daily at the house.
For an experience of the power of Gayatri, wake up before sunrise and stand facing the rising sun. Pay reverence to the energy of Guru and Shri Ganesh. Keeping your eyes fixed in the direction of sunrise, hold out the tongue and maintain awareness of the Surya Dev at the centre of your brows. Begin the internal chant of the Gayatri mantra. Wait for the specific prana of surya, when it turns into a gentle shade of pink. Offer jal (water) to the sun. Then close your eyes and continue with the awareness of the sun and internal chant of the mantra. Whenever you feel like, open your eyes, looking first at the centre of your palms, then the body, then anywhere else you may choose to look. Mail me your experiences.
