Unmanifest to the Manifest

Unmanifest to the Manifest

The unmanifest (avyakt) gives rise to the manifest (vyakt). Dhwani or sound is the first manifestation of physical creation. It originates from a layer so subtle that a normal human mind would not be able to comprehend that force. Everything that we see around us has a corresponding sound.

A prime example of how thought (avyakt) manifests into physical (vyakt) by mantras is the science of Yagyas. At Dhyan Ashram sadhaks have captured images of divine beings manifesting in yagya fire through correct uccharan. They have also experienced changes manifest in the body and environment through science of mantras.

That is how it all began, the pranav, which emerged from the damru of Bhagwan Shiv and gave rise to everything that we know.

Om is a continuous loop of countless small oms, with no beginning or end, a constant sound, also called the brahmnaad.

Few years ago a western University, recorded the sound of sun, the power source for all life on earth, and found it to be the sound of Om.

Effects Of Sound On the Body

Effects Of Sound On the Body

Sound has a deep and profound effect on the physical body of a being, whether we are able to immediately feel the effect or not depends on the kind of sound we interact with. Grosser and heavier sounds affect the physical body and have a short lived effect, while subtler sounds touch the lighter layers and the effect lasts for a longer time.

Grosser and heavier sounds affect the physical body and have a short lived effect, while subtler sounds touch the lighter layers and the effect lasts for a longer time.

A specific sound touches a specific centre of the energy body. While heavier sounds touch the lower centres, subtler sounds like mantras and hymns touch higher centres in the body. The roaring of a lion creates an environment of dread all around, whereas the call of a cuckoo or the song of a nightingale soothes. When you sing a lullaby to a child, the child goes off to sleep. Generally people who have fear inside them scream and shout on top of their voice, which is indicative of a weakness inside them. A fearless person will never be seen raising his voice unduly.

In earlier times, just before the starting of war, they used to blow a conch – this was to generate fear in the opponents army. People who stayed close to jungles used to beat drums to keep fierce beasts and evil spirits away. All this was done keeping in mind the effect of the sound generated, for the sound affects not only the beings of the physical dimension but also the other dimensions e.g. the spirits and ghosts etc.

Dhwani Of Mantras

Dhwani Of Mantras

Dhwani Of Mantras

A combination of certain sounds is a mantra. The Vedic masters studied in depth the dimension of sound and gave us the science of mantras for achieving nearly everything, which a being could possibly desire.

A mantra is energy codified in the form of a sound or a combination of sounds. Dashanan used one such mantra to take the golden Lanka from Kailash to its current location. Guru Shukryacharya used a combination of certain mantras to revive the dead in the form of mritsanjeevani vidya. For a mantra to bear fruit, it is important to receive it from a siddha Guru, that is, someone who has perfected the mantra and is able to channelize its correct Dhwani or frequency to you. If chanted the wrong way, a mantra can do more harm than good.

A combination of 7 mantras, they work to declog certain nadis (energy channels) and awaken specific chakras (energy centers), to interact with and channelise the force of divine energies for a practitioner. These mantras have a miraculous effect not just on the body but also in cleansing homes and offices, repelling evil and negative energies, and creating a protective, high-frequency space wherever they are chanted.

Guru-Shishya Parampara

Guru-Shishya Parampara

At Dhyan Foundation, gyaan is imparted in the ancient Guru-Shishya parampara, free of any fee. When you walk the path under a Guru, the results are immediate and physical. Through mantra and tantra sadhnas, the unmanifest (avyakt) takes form (vyakt), frequency shifts and the body transforms. As per capacity, you must invest – time, effort, daan – to hold higher dhwanis. Everything in Creation is a sound; if you align with the subtler ones, you move towards dev yoni… else, the fall is assured.

Scientific Research On Sound

A recent study involving young medical students explored the calming effects of listening to the Hanuman Chalisa—not just as music, but as dhwani rooted in Vedic mantras. For 10 minutes, participants sat comfortably and listened to the dhwani of the Hanuman Chalisa.

What happened next was remarkable:
There was a significant drop in blood pressure and heart rate—showing that the these soundwaves had a measurable impact on the body.

  • Systolic BP dropped by 10.62 mmHg

  • Diastolic BP dropped by 3.91 mmHg

  • Heart rate slowed by 5.77 beats/min

All of this was proven using scientific analysis (SPSS software), and the results were highly statistically significant.

A clinical study at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College found that vedic mantras, significantly reduced anxiety and stress in patients undergoing surgery. Compared to instrumental music, those who listened to these chants had lower cortisol levels, fewer side effects, and higher satisfaction. Anxiety scores were notably reduced during and after surgery, and the calming effect on stress hormones persisted into the next day. This study offers scientific proof that mantra-based sound therapy not only soothes the mind but also supports healing—bringing ancient Vedic wisdom into the realm of modern medicine.

Fabien Maman devoted a year-and-a-half to study the effects of sound on normal and malignant cells. He found that as the sounds progressed up the musical scale there would be an explosion of the cancer cells at a certain frequency as the sound travelled outward from the centre of the cell to its outer membrane.

Masaru Emoto through his experiment with effect of sound on water molecules reaffirmed that since our body is made up of 70% water, we are constantly being influenced by the sounds around us and by the information stored in the water we consume.

Don Campbell, in his book The Mozart Effect, shows how music, has all kinds of beneficial effects for human health. When pregnant mothers listened to Mozart and Vivaldi, the babies’ heart rates invariably steadied and kicking declined. Rock music drove most foetuses to distraction and they kicked violently when it was played to their pregnant mothers. In his research, Dr Mike Lewis found that classical music works on the whole brain, whereas pop music affects only one side of the brain.
