| "You are as young, as straight your back is.....”
Why the above statement is true?
Our Vedic rishis (Sages) believed in this maxim thousands of years ago. In fact, if one looks at the members of Dhyan Foundation sitting in Dhyan with straight backs, for hours together, this maxim becomes a fact in itself. Our energy body has numerous channels called nadis running all across it. Nadis carry vital prana (the ultimate life force) necessary for the proper functioning of the body. The importance of our back is evident here because one of the main nadis is the Sushumna Nadi which translates into the spinal column at the physical level. Any kink in this nadi, causes stagnation of prana. World renowned Yoga-Guru Yogi Ashwini says: “Life is a flow, stagnancy is death……….. don’t forget, even the dirtiest water becomes pure when it flows and even the purest water rots when it is stagnant.” This stagnation of prana causes diseases and sickness in the body.
Spine and back yoga workshops conducted by Dhyan Foundation explain finer aspects for a fitter and healthier back.
Procedure:
The first step for any Yogic kriya is to connect with the Guru, because Guru channelizes shakti (Energy) which brings about any change in the body and the being. The second important step is to breathe right, that is, the way we breathe when we are born- This breathing technique is called ujjai. Once the participants master ujjai they are taught a set of seven asans to strengthen their spine.
Benefits of Spine and Back Asans:
• Ease the stiffness in the back which eventually leads to freedom from backache.
• Help relieve pain from spondylitis and cervical strain so much so that they can move on with their modern lifestyle (for instance, sitting on computer) without a headache.
• Strengthen the back, post- pregnancy and help the young mothers cope up with their hectic regime of their baby(s)’ upbringing.
• Help people of all age groups cope with lower back related problems which are caused due to stress and weakness.
• Bring flexibility in the back, especially among youngsters who begin yoga early in their life.
• Maintain a youthful appearance for long without investing in expensive cosmetics and artificial diets or visits to the gym.
